We will introduce a plastic fine mist sprayer that is commonly used in personal care and cleaning products to produce a fine mist spray when the consumer dispenses the product. Keep in mind that there are hundreds of unique designs that may require components that are different from the components shown here, but here are the general ideas for how the "fine mist sprayer" works and how to convert liquid flow into mist.
These are the components of a fine mist sprayer:
Dust Cap Dust Cap: Usually made of PP plastic, usually in a transparent form, which acts as a dust cover and a safety cap to protect the actuator from dust accumulation and prevent accidental activation. To help the package stand out on the shelf, dust caps can be produced in stock or custom colors.
Actuator Actuator: Typically made of PP plastic, this is the component that the consumer presses to spray the product out of the bottle. Unlike actuators on lotion pumps, the actuator of a fine mist sprayer has an internal component that includes an insert to create a particular mist pattern of the product to be sprayed. Some fine mist sprayers have a locking feature that prevents accidental dispensing.
Drive InsertInsert: This tiny component consists of channels through which the liquid flows to form a hazy pattern. In many cases, the insert can be mounted external to the actuator and it is part of the product leaving the sprayer.
ClosureClosure: A component that secures the entire assembly to the bottle. It is usually made of PP plastic and can be coated with many finishes or designs - including ribbed, smooth, matt or glossy finishes. In some cases, metal casings can also be used to further increase the shelf appeal of the package. This component should have an industry standard neckwear, such as 18-410, 20-410, 24-415, and the like.
GasketGasket: The outer gasket acts as a compressible seal that seals the seal to the bottle's land to prevent leakage. Depending on the product/chemical composition, different gasket materials are required and the gasket is a key component that must be tested to ensure compatibility. Can be customized with different materials such as BUNA, neoprene, plastic rubber, LDPE.
Mechanism components: usually consisting of many components, such as pistons, housing covers, valve stems, springs, seals and the entire housing, which is the part that transports the product from the inside of the bottle to the actuator. Generally, when the actuator is pressed down, the spring compresses, pulling the product through the dip tube to the inside of the housing. Subsequent actuation pumps the liquid up through the piston toward the actuator and out of the pump through the actuator insert. The components that make up the mechanism vary from design to design, but the sprayers shown here include a piston, a valve stem, a spring, a seal mounted within the housing, and a housing cover. The mechanism is then mounted to the closure and snapped together with the actuator to secure it in place. Some nebulizer designs place metal springs in different locations to form metal-free channels.
Immersion tube dip tube: A slender plastic tube that extends the sprayer's range to the bottom of the bottle. Unlike the dip tube (usually thicker) of the lotion pump, the dip tube of the fine mist sprayer is typically slightly curved to allow it to reach the bottom of the push-up area of the bottle and cut into a "V" shape or angle to avoid clogging.
